Saw V: Another Lame Sequel?

No doubt about it, Saw was a huge hit when it was first release, for its twist and innovation in the Horror movie genre. For once, a movie took something that was plausible and real (rather than superficial), and turned it into a device of human terror. Mixed with it’s compelling story line, the movie was pure gold.

However, the destruction that was wrought upon the 3 following sequels was comparable to what SEGA did to Sonic the Hedgehog, or what EA did to all that is video games. The sequels were just so terrible, lame, and lacking any storyline whatsoever, that they just became another movie with tons of gore to fill in the empty spots.

So, when I heard Saw V was coming out, I wasn’t all to excited. My expectations were low due to the failure of the previous three movies, so no matter how bad they did on the 5th one, I would at least be somewhat satisfied. So, that probably leads to the question of why I even saw it in the first place, doesn’t it?

Because I like to see people being tortured or painfully killed, even if it’s only acting. :D

So, to get to my point. Did Saw V meet my expectations? Yes, but they were low, so meeting my expectations is no big deal within itself. So, for the real question now.

Did Saw V surpass my expectations? Absolutely yes.

What I expected: Another pointless Saw movie that had little creativity or storyline to it whatsoever. Basically, what’s been dished at us for the past 3 Saw sequels. You know, the ones that left you with the “Well, that was pointless and a waste of 2 hours of my life” feeling inside? To be honest, I expected even worse than that. I was only there for the gore.

What I got: A movie that blew my expectations.

For one: THERE WAS A STORYLINE. There was an actual MEANING to this story, rather than the past Saw sequels that left nothing to question, and just killed people for no reason whatsoever. For once I got to leave the theater with a sense of satisfaction after seeing a Saw movie. Not just the “ooo, some people died” memories of the past sequels.

Another thing I loved in this movie was that it actually have the Jigsaw character some personality! For once he seemed like a real person, not just some guy placed there just to attach the name to somebody.

To end this…’review’, the story had enough clever twists to keep me on my toes (although a few were predictable). There will be parts in the movie where you think you know what’s going to happen, and then BAM, something completely different happens. You’d be surprised with most of the twists..

Oh, and there’s a bit less gore than the previous 3 sequels, but I think that there are still enough to keep you satisfied. :P

    Do I recommend it?

Yes. Not a major yes, but if you have super low expectations of the movie, go and see it. It’ll keep you pleasantly surprised long enough to keep you talking about it all week. :-)
